Saint Wilfrid's school is an Aided Church of England Primary School which caters for children aged 4 to 11. The recent OFSTED inspection (2004) praised our outstanding results in numeracy and literacy and our special place in Village life. It noted: "This is a good school. The standards pupils attain in the basic skills are high...Pupils behave very well and they have very good attitudes to learning."
Our core philosophy is summed up in an extract from our mission statements: "We believe every individual is unique and to be valued for the special contribution that they bring to school. we aim to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that is challenging, exciting and enjoyable."
Church Links
Our school is a village school and we have developed close links with both the Anglican and Catholic churches in the parish. We are proud of our shared traditions. The needs of Catholic children are well met by the provision of specific religious instruction.
Our Ethos
Jesus said: "Love one another as I have loved you" and this is our guiding principle. We care about each other, our work and ourselves.
Facilities

Our school was built in 1871. improvement and modernisation programmes have included extensions and alterations in 1978, 1995, 1997 and 2004-5. Facilities include: spacious, well equipped 'Early Years' classrooms offering imaginative play areas and excellent facilities for art, craft and science work. Our junior pupils' classrooms are located in the extended wing, which opened in 1997. All classrooms are equipped with interactive white boards and pupils have ready access to computers. A new music room extension opened in 2004; providing facilities for singing tuition and extracurricular lessons in violin, keyboard and guitar as well as small group activities. Our large school hall is a hub of activity - providing facilities for worship, sport, dance, drama and school dinners served from our own kitchen.
Playgrounds
There are extensive playground areas to the front and rear of the school with a special garden area, veranda and play house for the 'Early Years' department and a meadow for the older pupils. In addition we have a fenced off woodland pond area.
School Council
Our School Council, comprising elected pupils from each year group, offers pupils the chance to make their suggestions about life in school.
After School Activities
Although small in size we pride ourselves on offering children of all abilities every opportunity to develop new skills and interests. recent after school and out-of-school activities have included: net ball, cricket, football, judo, fencing, chess club, French club, Spanish classes and regular attendance at the Preston School's Music Festival and participation in the annual Ribchester Festival of Music and Art.
PTFA
We're delighted to have a very active PTFA (Parent, Teacher and Friend's Association) which organises a range of events and has boosted school funds considerably (it played a major part in enabling the building of the school extension in 1997). The PTFA helps to fund the cost of transport to events including our annual pantomime trip each December and class visits to locations such as the Imperial War Museum, World of Glass and the Sea Life Centre. The PTFA also funded a professional artist to work with pupils during our Art Week in June 2005.
