Music at St Wilfrid's

Music provision within our beautiful churches comes from five different sources.

The organ - our splendid organ (originally made in Dublin by Telford and Telford and shipped to Liverpool before its journey to St. Wilfrid’s in February 1861), and affectionately known as Gladys, is played for most of our Sunday services and also for most weddings and funerals.

Stydd Band - once every 4-6 weeks our Junior Church/Little Wilfs accompany (usually on a variety of percussion instruments), the ‘Stydd Band’, made up , at various times, of keyboard, piano accordion, recorder, harp, flute, melodica, bassoon, guitar, violin, clarinet, tambourine and various other percussion instruments.

The Stydd Band is also responsible for providing the music for our annual, magical Christmas Eve service at  St. Saviour’s, Stydd.

Choir Church - Choir church, comprises pupils from St. Wilfrid’s C of E Primary school in Ribchester, trained by a Diocesan Musical Director. The choir present occasional sung pieces during special services, e.g. Easter, Harvest, Christmas, Mothering Sunday, Father’s Day.

Music Makers - our village choir, ‘Music Makers’, provides occasional musical pieces for Evensong (held monthly during the summer, at St. Saviour’s, Stydd), and choral support for weddings or funerals as required. Music Makers also provide several evening concerts each year with different themes including secular and classical pieces.
