Primary School celebrates Green Flag eco award

Ribchester St Wilfrid's Primary School has been awarded a Green Flag for the third time running!

As part of the Keep Britain Tidy charity, the Eco-Schools programme is the largest sustainable schools initiative in the world. Through an international award programme, pupils and teachers learn to become more sustainable in and out of the classroom.

It is now 6-years since St Wilfrid's was awarded its first Green Flag. Earlier this year they were extremely pleased to receive confirmation that their ongoing environmental work has earned further recognition with the award of a 3rd Green Flag.

The whole school has consistently worked toward this award with gardening days, planting wild flowers for insects and butterflies, hatching hens eggs and looking after the chicks, (now hens) in addition to  on-going recycling activities which now include used pens.

The assessor was most impressed with the way that the whole school was involved in eco activities and that the children all knew about what was happening around the school.

The school has continued to expand its recycling activities and this now encompasses a variety of materials. The front porch if the hub of recycling efforts so please feel free to contribute as appropriate when you visit the school office or simply pop in during school hours.
